UK SRS gap analysis for a construction materials manufacturer
A step-by-step plan to close the gap between TCFD and UK SRS for a listed company.
A leading UK building products manufacturer engaged Rawstone to assess how the its existing climate-related compliance reporting aligned with the proposed UK Sustainability Reporting Standard S2.
The company is a leading UK manufacturer of building products and solutions. Its operations include the manufacture of clay and concrete products used across the construction sector, supported by an established sustainability strategy focused on addressing climate change, manufacturing materials for life and improving lives.
The objective was to identify gaps in its current TCFD-aligned disclosures and provide a practical route towards more complete, connected and assurance-ready reporting.
The review examined the client’s publicly available annual report and sustainability report against the requirements of UK SRS S2. It also considered the relationship between UK SRS S1 and S2 and assessed current reporting against relevant Sustainability Accounting Standards Board metrics for the Construction Materials industry.
Rawstone has discussed what the UK SRS means for your business here.
Key highlights from the project include:
A paragraph-by-paragraph review of publicly available disclosures against the proposed UK SRS S2 requirements covering governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets.
A RAG-rated gap analysis matrix identifying current alignment, supporting evidence, evidence strength, disclosure gaps, likely owners, audit trail weaknesses and the outputs required.
A transparent readiness-scoring methodology combining disclosure alignment and assurance readiness to provide an auditable assessment across each UK SRS S2 section.
Assessment of the 14 SASB Construction Materials metrics, considering whether each topic was disclosed, whether the required metric format was used, whether the reporting boundary was clear and whether supporting context was provided.
Review of the client’s existing CDP disclosure to identify where non-public information was available to use as part of UK SRS S2.
Identification of established strengths, including the company’s TCFD reporting foundation, governance disclosures, climate-related risk and opportunity identification, scenario analysis, greenhouse gas emissions reporting and climate targets.
Identification of priority areas for improvement, particularly the financial quantification of climate-related effects, transition plan credibility, reporting controls and audit trails, connected information, and links between climate matters and financial reporting.
A prioritised action plan and roadmap setting out practical workstreams and recommended sequencing to support more complete and assurance-ready reporting over the next 18 months.
Projects like this are particularly rewarding because they combine technical reporting expertise with practical implementation. By translating complex UK SRS requirements into a clear, prioritised action plan, we were able to help the client understand where they stand today and what steps will create the greatest value as reporting expectations continue to evolve.
