Our story

As a previous in-house sustainability leader, and recognised expert in the field, Caroline founded Rawstone to address an obvious gap in the market – expert sustainability advice from experienced practitioners who have developed, led, and delivered sustainability on the ground.

Rawstone Consulting has evolved to a boutique sustainability consultancy with a strong team of experts covering a wide range of social, environmental and governance issues. We work in small and close project teams to deliver our work and all works are overseen by Caroline.

As a recognised expert in her field Caroline is a member of the Saint Gobain UK & Ireland Stakeholder Advisory Panel, a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, and for several years was an elected board member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School. She also recently achieved the Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute.

Our mission

We are...

To engage and empower you, your employees, and your stakeholders to realise the value of sustainability for your business.

  • Progressive - we'll move your sustainability approach forward, step-by-step.

  • Empathetic - we listen, we work to understand you and your business' stakeholders needs.

  • Diligent - we deliver, with pride.

  • No-nonsense - simple, practical and workable solutions, clearly defined.

What makes us different

Social and environmental expertise

We are experts across a broad range of sustainability issues; equity, diversity and inclusion; wellbeing; charitable engagements; carbon reduction; waste management; water conservation; and responsible procurement. We're well positioned to offer comprehensive and holistic sustainability strategies, that don’t just cover carbon.

Sustainability experts

As former in-house leaders turned consultants, we know the importance of practical strategy delivery. We don't rely solely on theory. Instead, we tailor our recommendations to what we know will work in the business for your specific circumstances.

ESG investor knowledge

Members of our team have worked in finance and have achieved the FCA Certificate in ESG Investing. This, coupled with extensive experience of completing ESG Rating Schemes and index submissions, and working with private equity investors, means we are well placed to deliver investor focused ESG activities.

End-to-end delivery of sustainability projects

Seeing our recommendations come to life is our passion. We will guide, upskill, and empower you to deliver our recommendations but should you need it, we are always on hand to assist with sustainability implementation and reporting.

Operating sustainably

We take pride in practicing the principles we preach. We actively understand, manage and mitigate any negative sustainability impacts arising from our operations. Further, we are committed to operating inline with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and to taking action to positively contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More details on how we do this are set out in our Code of Conduct.

gender equality SDG logo

Our business is female owned and operated, and we are committed to promoting gender equality in our business and industry.

We treat people and businesses as we want to be treated. As signatories of the Prompt Payment Code we pay all suppliers within 30 days (see our Supplier Payment Guide); we pay UK taxes; and each year we donate a minimum of 1% of revenue to community or charitable causes. In 2023 funds were donated to Blood Cancer UK, Place2Be and Dementia UK.

In accordance with the SME Climate Commitment we are targeting Net Zero emissions by 2040, and to halve our emissions by 2030. These goals exceed our verified Science-Based Target Initiative Commitments. You can read our reduction strategy here and our FY22/23 progress update here.

We are also a supporter of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and operationally carbon neutral (FY22; FY23).
