Your in-house ESG team, from the outside

We are a small team of experienced, and previously in-house ESG practitioners that have become consultants.

Our mission is to deliver ESG solutions for the real world; Solutions that are practical, credible and add real financial value to our clients through increased sales, exit value and/or compliance.

ESG solutions for the real world

ESG only works when it fits the reality of a client's business. By listening closely and understanding the nuances of our client's businesses, industry and ambitions, we create bespoke solutions shaped precisely around their needs.

1

Example: GHG inventory

If a client needs a GHG inventory for their EcoVadis submission we make sure the inventory is not just presented as needed for the GHG Protocol but that it includes EcoVadis-specific nuances such as ‘total up-stream’ and ‘total downstream’ emissions

2

Example: ESG policy

If a client needs an ESG policy we don’t produce a generic ESG policy. We review all the ESG-related policy requirements of their customers, investors and benchmarks and ensure all of these are covered. Factoring in best practice too where we can.

3

Example: Materiality

If a client wants a materiality assessment we’ll tailor the depth of stakeholder engagement and process followed (traditional vs. double) to the goal of the assessment, be it compliance, reporting and/or strategy development.

Who we work with

As an ESG consultancy for mid-sized businesses we primarily work with private-equity backed growth companies, listed/regulated businesses and organisations with small ESG teams needing some senior external firepower.

They come to us because they need help with ESG compliance, and/or understanding, prioritising and responding to the ESG expectations of their customers and investors.

We work across sectors, which means we can apply the learning from one sector to another, but within that we have particular specialisms of the built environment and pharmaceuticals.

Our team

Rawstone Consulting was founded in 2018 by our Managing Director, Caroline Johnstone. With a background in investment banking Caroline didn’t move into ESG for activism, it was for a love of problem solving and complex challenges but also with an appreciation of the long-term need for us all to be more sustainable. Having worked in-house as the sustainability lead for multiple companies setting up a consultancy was the next natural step.

Rawstone Consulting is now a team of four employees with a network of trusted consultants and partners to support delivery. Wherever possible we work with partners that mirror our ethos, such as The Sustainable Bookkeeper and JMG Studio.
